You will learn how to structure a portrait through reference material provided. We will focus on the structure of the face and basic techniques and then move on to nuances of the model by observing and integrating character into the portrait. Mornings will be drawing/painting from an image or mirror and three afternoons will be working from a live model. You will have the option to work in the medium of your choosing. Please bring a 11 x 14 sketchbook and pencil to first class.

This versatile drawing and painting medium dates back to 300 AD, and uses molten wax as paint, mixing medium and preparatory surface Spread your artistic horizons by learning encaustic. Whether you’re a novice or a practicing artist, you’ll learn this fascinating wax technique with one-on-one, semi private instruction. You’ll be supplied with your own pan and storage area as well as access to brushes, tools and heating implements. For your health and safety, Hag Atelier is specially designed for group instruction with a powerful exhaust unit and hoods as well as a separate station for heat gun and iron. You will learn basic techniques as well as safety issues, collage, printing techniques, sculpture, and mould making, gilding, printmaking methods and glazing techniques.
